SC Films is launching worldwide sales at the upcoming TIFF market on the action-horror film Cotton Eye Joe, which began shooting in Illinois this week. The movie stars genre veterans Bill Moseley and Sean Gunn, alongside Cassidy Terracian, Brian Dole, Eloise Lola Gordan, and Moses Jones. It is written and directed by Nick Merola, with additional writing by Brandon Weavil, whose latest feature Dolly was recently acquired by IFC. The story revolves around four friends who break down on a deserted country road and seek refuge in desolate farmland, only to awaken the brutal legend of Cotton Eye Joe. As night falls, survival becomes a desperate game of cat and mouse at the hands of a relentless serial killer. According to producers, Merola "reinvents traditional folklore with the project to craft a fun-slasher that brings a violent and modern edge to the legend popularized by the Rednex Euro-hit song of the same name." SC Films' CEO Simon Crowe negotiated the deal with producers Casey McEnry and Colin Olsen, and he also serves as an executive producer alongside Fin Crowe. Nick Merola expressed his excitement, stating that he started making horror movies in the second grade and is now stepping onto the set of his first feature with an incredible cast and crew. He described Cotton Eye Joe as a fun, bloody, and suspenseful movie that made him fall in love with the horror genre as a kid. Simon Crowe described the project as a cool script with a fast-paced and great concept. This film promises to be a thrilling addition to the horror genre, blending traditional folklore with a modern twist and delivering a fun-slasher experience.
