Attention All Drivers!
Starting Wednesday, December 17, 2025, get ready for some road adjustments on South Academy Boulevard in Colorado Springs. From 7 p.m. to 4:30 a.m., expect a lane reduction to one through lane in each direction between Fountain Creek and Bradley Road. This is to ensure the safety of workers applying sealant to bridge expansion joints. Minor delays are expected, and a contingency night has been scheduled for Thursday, December 18, in case of weather impacts.
But that's not all! From Monday, December 15, to Friday, December 19, between 7 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., various lane closures will be in effect on South Academy Boulevard between Venetucci Boulevard and Milton Proby Parkway. Two lanes of traffic will remain open in each direction, but drivers should be prepared for potential delays. Remember to obey speed limits, maintain safe distances, and stay alert for workers and equipment in the work zone.
The South Academy Boulevard Widening Project
This project aims to transform South Academy Boulevard into a smoother, safer commute. The improvements are focused on a 1.5-mile stretch of the road, from the I-25 interchange to Milton E. Proby Parkway. The goal is to widen the road from two lanes to three in each direction, reducing recurring congestion. The project includes enhanced drainage, lighting, striping, and expanded shoulders, as well as modified merge lanes, sound walls, and bridgework. It's all about making the road safer and more efficient.
Safety First!
The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) conducted a thorough safety assessment for the corridor. The goal is to identify and address safety issues, reduce crashes, and improve infrastructure. Over the next 20 years, this project is expected to significantly reduce deaths, injuries, and crashes on the four MAMSIP corridors, including South Academy Boulevard.

Military Access, Mobility, and Safety Improvement Program
The Colorado Department of Transportation has initiated a program to enhance mobility and safety along key routes, including I-25, Colorado Highway 94, South Academy Boulevard, and Charter Oak Ranch Road. This program is partially funded by a $18 million BUILD grant from the US Department of Transportation. The goal is to improve strategic movement between major military installations in El Paso County, ensuring efficient and safe access.
