Waves are predicted to be in the 40- to 60-foot range during the window set aside for the competition. Kevin Wallis from Surfline commented on Tuesday that, “The current forecast models show a deep NW swell reaching its maximum from around 6 p.m. on Friday until about 6 a.m. on Saturday, with waves gradually diminishing through Saturday afternoon. It’s set to be the largest swell of the year so far—arguably the most impressive in recent years for Nazaré. What's remarkable is not only the size but also the consistency, with many big sets expected throughout.”
The initial signs of these colossal waves are expected early Friday morning, prompting the WSL to make a decision on whether to proceed with the competition that same day. Predictions indicate another significant swell could follow later in the day, with wave faces potentially reaching 50 to 70 feet and even touching 75 feet at their peak.
